The Adult Learning Center (A.L.C.) started operation after it was completed
in the Fall of 1998. The A.L.C. was run directly under the mandate of
Gingolx First Nations Education Department.
For the 2000-2001 and 2001-2002 school years, funding was provided indirectly
through Nisga's Lisims Government. Beginning in the 2002-2003 school year,
the responsibility for the operation of the Adult Learning Center was
been taken over by School District #92 (Nisga'a).
The Adult Learning Center provides administrative and instructional support
to students taking Distant Education and computer based courses through Terrace North Coast Distant Education School. The Public School courses that are available; English and Language Arts (English, Composition, Writing),
Mathematics, Accounting, Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Art, C.A.P.P.,
and History.
The Adult Learning Centre also offers a wide range of public school courses at the Grade 10, 11 and 12 level. The courses are from the Pro-Active Curriculum series and are paper based (not online). These courses are geared to those students who are working towards their Adult Dogwood graduation certificate. We also offer students a wide range of academic upgrading options through the use of the online PLATO Learning Systems.
Throughout the year, the Gingolx First Nations Education Department has
had various skilled and knowledgable people come into the community to
present their courses.
Courses such as First Aid Levels 1 & 3, Swift Water Rescue and Safety,
Traffic Control, Super Host, and Fire Arms Safety are just some of the
courses already taken.
The Adult Learning Center Library is a public lending library for the
community. The library opens Monday through Friday at 9 am. to 3 pm.
